Largoward Parish
Church

To inspire everyone in Largoward and beyond with the
Good News of Jesus Christ

In the rural heart of North East Fife, Largoward Kirk is a simple but beautiful example of a Georgian country church with an interior largely unaltered since it was built in 1835.

Its sash and case windows with views to the surrounding countryside illuminate the Georgian pews, gallery and pulpit, polished brasses and warm colours of carpets and cushions. Experience a real sense of history as you climb the staircase to the gallery and reflect on all those who have done so before you over the years.

Until 1835, when the present 'B' listed building was erected, as a chapel of ease, the people of Largoward attended the parish church at Kilconquhar, about five miles away. But this was deemed too distant.

In 1860, a new parish of Largoward was created, disjoined from Kilconquhar, and the church had its own Kirk Session. Pew rent was one shilling and sixpence per annum.

Plaques on the walls on the ground floor commemorate those fallen in war, while the more modern, but beautifully scripted, Cradle Rolls flanking the pulpit, tell of happier events in village life.

In 1983, Largoward and St Monans Churches were linked, sharing a minister living in the manse at St Monans, not quite seven miles away.

However changing times meant the severing of that linkage and Largoward is now a single parish again, under the Guardianship of Fife Presbytery and the care of Locum Minister the Rev Danny Connolly.

Largoward Church of Scotland is also part of the East Neuk West cluster of churches comprising:- Largoward, Elie, Kilconquhar and Colinsburgh (East Neuk Trinity) with St Monans & Largo Church. As such we enjoy joint services and activities from time to time.

Whether you are holidaying in the area, or are a resident in Largoward or its surrounding district, you will be made very welcome at the weekly Sunday services with musical accompaniment from acclaimed accordionist Billy Anderson.

During the week, there’s the opportunity for further fellowship at Coffee & Co (short for Coffee and company), a weekly coffee morning. Held on Wednesdays, in Largoward village hall from 10.30 am to 11.30am it aims to provide a time, midweek, for people from the village and beyond to enjoy company and a chat over coffee – or tea!
